City-wide prayer
Two Arms
Watch and Pray Edmonton has two arms: The Neighbourhood initiative called “Watch and Pray, Homes” and the city-wide prayer initiative called “Watch and Pray, Prayer.”
The purpose of “Watch and Pray, Prayer” is two-fold. First is to push back crime in Edmonton and area through prayer, and, second is to pray for those involved in our other arm, “Watch and Pray, Homes” so that they might have an impact for the gospel in the streets and neighbourhoods in which they live. To use an military analogy, the Prayer arm is like the air force sent in to clear the way for the ground troops, which, in this case, is “Watch and Pray, Homes.”
Monthly City-Wide Prayer Gathering Announced
Pushing Back Crime through Prayer first began in Edmonton in late 2008– early 2009 with monthly prayer and worship gatherings at various city locales culminating with a city-wide gathering at the Winspear Centre in April 2009. We are excited to announce that, beginning in November, Watch and Pray Prayer will once again be hosting a monthly gathering focused on pushing back crime in our city.
The gathering will take place on the third full weekend of each month as part of the House of Prayer Edmonton (HoPE) 24 hour night and day prayer held at the Marketplace Chapel of West Edmonton Mall. The regular time for the Watch and Pray gathering will be from 1pmto 3pm on the designated Saturdays.
Fasting and Prayer Chain
A prayer chain has been established to pray for the safety and well-being of our city through the effective means of fasting and prayer. Our eventual goal is to see every quadrant and suburb of Edmonton covered with special prayer everyday by one or more persons who are committing themselves to the effort through fasting.
Those participating in this prayer effort are committing to one day a month (or quarter) for the first year to fast at least one meal during their day and devote the time that would normally be taken for that meal in prayer. Many will be fasting for three meals or for a 24 hour period (6pm-6pm).
The major emphasis of the prayer effort will continue to be the pushing back of crime but other important issues that affect the peace, safety and well-being of the city need to be addressed as well. During the WCB hostage situation, word was quickly disseminated to all team members for special prayer. The welfare and protection of our police members will also be a priority as we continue to come before the God of Heaven for the welfare of Edmonton and area.
Periodic prayer points bulletin will be sent to participants and any one else who would like to stay in touch for the purpose of prayer. Prayer chain participants are still needed.
